Fixing API Key Configuration Errors

API key configuration errors can disrupt the functionality of your AskSpot chatbot. Below are common issues users face and solutions to resolve them.

Common API Key Configuration Errors and Solutions

1. Insufficient Credits in OpenAI Account

Issue

Many users experience errors when their OpenAI API account does not have sufficient credits. This can cause the API key to stop working, leading to various error messages.

Scenario

"My account is showing an error every time I ask the bot a question."

Solution

Check your OpenAI account to ensure that you have enough credits. If your account is out of credits, the API key will not function properly. Add credits to your account and the issue should be resolved. If the problem persists, try generating a new API key and adding it to your AskSpot account.

2. "Incorrect API Key Provided" Error

Issue

This error occurs when the provided API key is not recognized by the system, even though it may have worked previously or works with other bots.

Scenario

"When I try to add the API key from OpenAI and test the key, I get 'Incorrect API key provided' even though it’s the same API key I’m using for all the other bots."

Solution

Ensure that your OpenAI account has sufficient credits. If you have confirmed that your account is funded and the issue persists, generate a new API key and test it. Additionally, check if OpenAI requires a “project API” for any new connection, as this may also be causing the issue.

3. 'Something Went Wrong' Error

Issue

This error is a general indicator that something is not functioning correctly with the API key or the associated account.

Scenario

"All my bots are getting a 'something went wrong' error. I thought it was related to a bot template I imported and modified, but it is not."

Solution

First, ensure that your OpenAI account has sufficient credits. If credits are not the issue, the API key itself may be corrupted. Try generating a new API key and adding it to your account. This often resolves the problem.
